Book Love: Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson

The Gargoyle (novel)
Google Says
The Gargoyle is a magnificent love story, sweeping across centuries and continents. When it ends you'll want to read it again.
After a horrific car accident a man lies in hospital with severe burns to almost all of his body. He endures the pain, the hideous disfigurement and the excruciating treatments to remove the dead and rotting skin only in the hope of becoming well enough to end his life.
Then Marianne Engel, sculptor of gargoyles, appears. She unravels a wild, impossible tale of a life they had together, a tale that begins with her nursing him when he was burned once before, seven hundred years ago in Germany. Weaving stories within her story-fables of love in Japan, Iceland, Italy and England-Marianne slowly brings beauty and love into his life.
Character Development
The Nameless narrator develops truly in the book.
He goes from being emotionless and vain thinking that only his looks are the important thing about him, to being forced to look outside his own vanity and explore different aspects of love through various characters he meets along the way.
Setting and LocationIts firstly set in an hospital which is where I picked the book up from, while i was waiting for a doctor, I started reading it and became engulfed in the characters situation. Most of the narrative is set within the hospital during his recovery, he meets some characters who most profess the doctorate occupation, apart from One.
Marianne Engel
Its through knowing her that he changes his perception of the world and of how he treats people.
Historic Fantasy Romance
Great thought provoking book, very reflective and descriptive.
Fantastic writing and great humour if you like dark humour, works very well with the irony in life
